History buffs and culture aficionados alike can't get enough of Downtown Raleigh. Countless museums, centuries-old homes, and historic markers are sprinkled throughout the downtown area, giving residents endless places to explore. Be sure to tour the State Capitol and Governor's Mansion, browse the current exhibits at the NC Museum of History, or explore Historic Oakwood by candlelight during the holidays.

Take your pick of casual eateries, fine dining establishments, boutiques, antique stores, craft breweries, and more in Downtown Raleigh and throughout Inside the Beltline. While Downtown Raleigh remains a popular spot for shopping and dining, other hot spots include Cameron Village and Hillsborough Street. North Hills is nestled just outside of the beltline in Midtown Raleigh.

Public Transit

The heart of Raleigh is well connected. While GoRaleigh buses serve the whole city from transit stations like Moore Square, the R-Line is unique to the downtown area. This free circulator offers eco-friendly buses that run every 10 to 15 minutes throughout Downtown Raleigh, so it's a great way to get around town. Major thoroughfares like Western Boulevard, Glenwood Avenue, and Capital Boulevard connect ITB residents to I-440 and surrounding Raleigh areas.

Parks & Recreation

While Inside the Beltline is a bustling urban area, there are more trees and green spaces than you'd think. In fact, locals often refer to Raleigh as a city of parks. Be sure to stop and smell the roses (literally) at the Raleigh Rose Garden, snap a photo of the downtown skyline at Dorthea Dix Park, take a picnic lunch to Fred Fletcher Park, or ride the historic carousel at Pullen Park.
